Digital Information system

Since the 2013/2014 winter season, Zermatt Bergbahnen has kept visitors up to date with local news in daily bulletins at a number of central locations. The two partners netvico GmbH from Stuttgart and Richnerstutz AG from Villmergen will handle the development, production and assembly of the digital signage components throughout the area.

Five new LED panorama walls – one-of-a-kind and a world first – were installed in 2018 in Zermatt. The digital, automated outdoor walls impressed skiers and hikers with a user-friendly guest routing system featuring a live panorama map, web cams, weather data, information about the pistes and facility status plus up-to-date warnings in the ski area – all in four languages. This was all based on the award-winning software “PlayEverywhere” which transmits advertising and individual warnings simply and in seconds, including direct forwarding to other communication channels.

No other installation worldwide offers this type of high-resolution LED panels in the outdoor segment with 1.9 mm pixel pitch and a contrast of up to 4'000 cd/m2. The completely temperature-controlled housing compensates for severe temperature fluctuations between -40 to +55 degrees Celsius.

46-inch screens in the matterhorn paradise

The 46-inch screens of the digital information system are situated close to the turnstiles. They provide visitors with up-to-date information, including open facilities and slopes, wind and temperature readings and the time of the last descent. A particular feature of the digital displays is that they provide a flexible and direct means of broadcasting news. They also carry image films and webcam shots from different stations, offering authentic impressions of the alpine world.

The displays are installed both indoors and outdoors. The housings are fully air-conditioned and able to withstand the extremes of temperature experienced in the Alps, ranging from minus 40º to plus 55º Celsius. Thanks to a special non-reflective protective glass, information is easy to read, even in bright sunlight. Outdoors, the displays are fitted into metal frames which are a striking visual feature of the stations.

SiliconCore LED displays installed at record breaking heights

In a world first, cable car operator Zermatt Bergbahnen, now offers visitors resort guidance via a high tech experience at altitudes up to 3'000m. Measuring 3.4m x 2.4m and featuring 1.9mm pixel pitch LED displays from SiliconCore, each display operates at a very bright 3'000nit brightness, showcasing panoramic maps, ski lift information and critical messaging on slope safety.
