Gornergrat Bahn

Zermatt’s first mountain railway, the Gornergrat Bahn started operations in 1898. Initially, the cog railway ran only in the summer, but since 1927 it has been carrying passengers up to 3089 metres above sea level all year round. In winter, the Gornergrat area is part of the Matterhorn ski paradise.

The German carmaker Audi has been helping people get about on four wheels since 1909. Not quite as long ago as that, but still a good few years back, Audi became closely associated with winter sports, most notably as title sponsor of the Audi FIS Ski World Cup. In the glacier palace, visitors can marvel at a handcrafted sculpture of an Audi Quattro.
