The maintenance and completion works of the Matterhorn Glacier Ride II between Klein Matterhorn and Testa Grigia have been completed faster than initially planned.

We are pleased to announce that the cable car will resume operations as of March 2nd, 2024. This means that the Matterhorn Alpine Crossing experience will be available to excursion guests again starting from Saturday.

Ensuring the seamless operations and safety for our guests are our priority. Following an initial operational phase, the Matterhorn Glacier Ride II cable car will undergo extensive maintenance work and receive supplementary installations starting on the 8th of January 2024. The Matterhorn Alpine Crossing experience between Zermatt and Cervinia is expected to resume by the end of March 2024. Should the Matterhorn Glacier Ride II between the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise and Testa Grigia be restarted before the 31st of March 2024, we will provide updates in advance. The connection between Zermatt and Cervinia remains assured throughout the winter season via the ski slopes. The cable car ride from Zermatt to the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise remains unaffected by these maintenance works.

As part of the relaunch of the Zermatt Bergbahnen website, we have also given the trade website an upgrade. Special optimisations were made in the download area. The new visual language of Zermatt Bergbahnen was consistently implemented during the shootings last winter as well as summer and the results are impressive. In mid-June 2022, the old Zermatt - Furi cable car was dismantled after almost 60 years of service for the Zermatt Bergbahnen and construction work began on a replacement. The new Zermatt - Furi cable car took up operation at the beginning of November, just in time for the start of the winter season. The modern cabins offer space for 100 people, float from the village of Zermatt to Furi and show unique views of the Matterhorn. Find out more about the new AURO cable car here.

The opening of the new 3S cableway from the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise at 3883 metres above sea level to the Testa Grigia marks the completion of the Matterhorn Alpine Crossing. With immediate effect, passengers can embark on the scenic trip around the Matterhorn, which includes the highest border crossing by cable car in the Alps at 3480 metres. The opening ceremony was hosted by celebrity presenter Michelle Hunziker and attended by Christophe Dabellay, President of the State Council of the Canton of Valais, Renzo Testolin, President of the Gouvernment of the Valle d’Aosta Region and other representatives of the political and business worlds from both Switzerland and Italy.

In about one year, the vision that has been dreamed of for more than 80 years will become reality. The new Matterhorn Glacier Ride II will create a year-round and continuous connection between Zermatt (Switzerland) and Cervinia (Italy) and will also enable non-skiers to cross the Alps. As such, the Matterhorn Alpine Crossing will be the highest border crossing in the Alps in the future. Be curious about the new adventure world "Snow Xperience Plateau Rosa", which will become another highlight in the Matterhorn Paradise.

The modern premises at the Matterhorn Test Center with its imposing backdrop, invite you to do more than just test the latest ski models. The spacious room, where the official ski test takes place in October and November, can be used from January to September for MICE events, such as meetings and gatherings of various nature. Depending on the seating arrangement, the Matterhorn Test Center can accommodate up to 460 people. If you are interested, please feel free to contact us at any time. After 58 years in service, it's time to call it a day: The gondola from Zermatt to Furi performed its last service this winter. The "old lady" will be replaced by a more modern gondola this summer. At the same time, the building at the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise valley station will be renovated and modernized. In addition to the conversion of the ticket offices, the new building will also house the offices for the administration of the Matterhorn-Zermatt Bergbahnen.
