FROM VISION TO REALITY

A trip round the Matterhorn

Opening on 1 July 2023

From vision to reality. After years of groundbreaking work, the vision of an all-season link between the world-class spa resort of Zermatt in Switzerland and the Italian village of Breuil-Cervinia is about to become a reality. Surrounded by a breathtaking Alpine panorama, the new route offers a thrill-packed ride. Passengers ride in cabins luxuriously fitted out for maximum comfort. The crossing is an experience in a class of its own – gliding over the stunning mountain landscape that straddles the Italian-Swiss border, with the Matterhorn always in view.

The Matterhorn Alpine Crossing raises cableway travel to a new level. The highest cable car crossing in the Alps connects two countries with different characteristics that cast a spell all their own. Enjoy the vista of unique mountain scenery around the Matterhorn and the special magic of each stop on the way.

Recommendations

From August 2023!

The new “SnowXperience Plateau Rosa” activity park is due to open in August in the area around the Matterhorn Glacier Ride II valley station – another highlight in the Matterhorn Paradise. Enjoy the first snow, exhilarating snow tube descents and the first skiing near the highest cableway border crossing in the Alps. Fun in the snow for beginners and adventurers.

From August 2023, all the gear required for the activities on offer will be available locally on site. You will be able to hire snow sports equipment and appropriate clothing from the SnowXperience Plateau Rosa shop inside the Matterhorn Glacier Ride II valley station. There you will find everything you need for your first “SnowXperience”.

Explore the highest border crossing by cableway in the Alps between Italy and Switzerland. At Testa Grigia / Plateau Rosa it’s possible to stand with one foot in Switzerland and the other in Italy.
This is where Switzerland and Italy literally come together.

The “Una Montagna di Lavoro” museum (Plateau Rosa Museum of Work) is located at an altitude of 3,500 metres near the mountain station of the old cableway, and can also be reached on foot. The museum tells the story of the ski lifts of Breuil-Cervinia through audio-visual media and historic photographs. Tools and artefacts of the past are also on display. A compass rose on the museum terrace indicates all the mountains in the vicinity.
