Rules for ski tourers
- Outside the operating hours of Zermatt Bergbahnen, the slopes are closed and therefore access is prohibited. Ski tourers must also observe the operating hours. There is a risk of death!
- Only explicitly open slopes may be used for ski touring outside operating hours.
- During the operating hours of the Zermatt Bergbahnen, the FIS Code of Conduct apply to all users of the slopes.
- In particular, the following FIS rules apply on the pistes:
- Ascent only at the edge of the slope
- Ascent only one behind the other, not side by side
- No crossings in blind spots
- Take special care on hilltops, in bottlenecks, on steep slopes and in icy conditions
- Respect ski operations – these have priority
- The instructions of the Piste Patrol and Rescue Service personnel must be followed.
- If special circumstances require it, the cable car company concerned (Zermatt Bergbahnen AG) has the option of prohibiting ski touring on its ski slopes even during operating hours.
- Wildlife sanctuaries and protected areas must always be respected. At dusk and in the dark, forest areas should be avoided, especially when using headlamps. Details on wildlife and forest protection zones in Zermatt can be found here.
- Ascents and descents are undertaken at your own risk and responsibility.
