Four Lakes Bike Tour

First, you take the funicular from Zermatt to Sunnegga, then the gondola cable car to Blauherd. This is the starting point for the beautiful Four Lakes Tour. After a short descent, the trail bears left to reach the first lake, Stellisee, which holds a mirror image of the Matterhorn in all its magnificence.

The trail continues down via Fluhalp to the Grindjisee und Grünsee lakes. For once, it is not the Matterhorn that is reflected in Grünsee, but other strikingly beautiful mountains. The final lake on the tour is Moosjisee, which differs from the other three lakes mainly in its colour. It is a typical glacier lake, whose most notable feature is the milky appearance of its water. From Moosjisee, the trail leads back via Findeln to Sunnegga.

Blauherd-Sunnegga Bike Tour

First you take the funicular from Zermatt to Sunnegga, then the gondola cable car to Blauherd. From the mountain station, the trail follows the Flower Trail to Tuftern. The path is flat to begin with, but then the technical difficulty increases, with some tight curves to negotiate. It is rewarding to stop from time to time to admire the grandiose view which takes in the Matterhorn, Mettelhorn and Weisshorn. Once the trail reaches the hamlet of Tuftern, the gravel path leads back through forests of larch and Swiss pine to Sunnegga.

Kalbermatten Yo-Yo Bike Tour

The Matterhorn Express gondola cable car takes you high up to Schwarzsee. From here, you ride beneath the face of the Matterhorn on a gravel track that leads down to the hydroelectric pumping station at Stafel and across the Zmuttbach to the other side of the valley. This is where the single-trail fun begins. The first section of the bike trail is flat and easy going. This is followed by a short and intensive ascent.

Once it reaches the hamlet of Zmutt, the path leads to the Yo-Yo Trail. There are several tight bends to negotiate and towards the end, riders have to dismount to climb the last few metres. The bike trail is very varied and some single-trail experience is an advantage.

Serious bikers beware: tough trail in Zermatt

Bike tours that make your leg muscles burn and demand mental strength are just as much on the agenda in Zermatt as comfortable rides. For anyone who relishes a mountain biking challenge, the Matterhorn Paradise is just the place for you.

Stafel-Schönbielhütte Bike Tour

The tour starts at Schwarzsee and takes you up to Stafelalp. From there, a gravel path leads to the hydroelectric pumping station and quickly becomes a narrow trail. The scenery changes, too: trees give way to a desolate landscape. From the moraine of the Zmutt Glacier, the bike trail leads to the Schönbiel mountain hut. This stretch is quite steep, but no problem for experienced bikers. You soon reach the final section of the trail. The slope is so sheer, riders have to carry their bikes to the hut. The descent after a pause at the hut is well worth the effort of the climb.
