It’s a stroke of luck that the five most beautiful mountain lakes in Zermatt are so close together. There's plenty to see on this approximately 9-kilometre trail from Blauherd to Sunnegga.  Each individual lake has its own special magic. As well as taking in some of the most beautiful locations in the Matterhorn Summer Paradise, the walk also has some fascinating stories attached to it. With a little luck, observant walkers will be able to spot some rare Alpine plants. What no one can overlook, however, is the ever-present Alpine panorama.

Pure relaxation

Route: Blauherd - Stellisee - Grindjisee - Grünsee - Moosjisee - Leisee - Sunnegga
Best time of year: June – September

The lakes offer a wide variety of opportunities for adventure and relaxation. It’s hard to pick a favourite. It might be one of the two lakes for swimming – Grünsee or Leisee, where the focus is on fun for the kids. Or perhaps Stellisee, in whose waters the reflection of the Matterhorn shines brilliant and clear, or the deep green Grindjisee, rugged and mystical. It could also be Moosjisee, a reservoir whose turquoise waters give it the feel of paradise. The choice is wide.

Please note: Swimming is only allowed in Leisee and Grünsee as long as there are no signs indicating otherwise.

One thing the lakes all share in common is the ever-present Alpine panorama. It’s worth pausing to take in the views, enjoy the peace and savour the moment. The clear mountain air fills your lungs and you can feel yourself relax
