The peak of happiness that is pure Switzerland

Rothorn

Clouds Clouds Clouds

Locals call the view from Rothorn “the chocolate-box side of the Matterhorn”. No wonder: the view from Rothorn at 3103 m offers the best panorama of the surrounding mountains. One four-thousand-metre peak after another is spread at your feet – a unique panorama!

But the mountains in the Zermatt-Matterhorn holiday region are not just there to be admired. On the contrary! Summer and winter, they offer ideal conditions for experiences that you will treasure for a long time to come. At Rothorn there are numerous holiday activities on the list: from hiking and biking in summer to snowshoe trekking and skiing in winter.

A tip for art lovers: The Peak Collection on Rothorn is an art experience you will never forget. The exhibition of original works installed around the mountain restaurant all year round captures the imagination of guests from far and wide.

Winter thrills on Rothorn

The gondola ride to the mountain station is a winter experience in itself. But the real winter fun begins on Rothorn as soon as there is snow underfoot.

Snow magic for skiers, snowboarders and freeriders

The slopes on Rothorn are something to see! Directly in front of the mountain station, visitors cut their tracks in the ski area of superlatives that extends over 360 kilometres of pistes. Each of the slopes is perfectly prepared and enjoys a magnificent view.

Easy, intermediate and difficult pistes lead from Rothorn via Blauherd and Sunnegga down to Zermatt in the valley. In between? Plenty of room for carving ski and snowboard tracks.

Freeriders also get their money’s worth on Rothorn. From the summit there are no less than three yellow ski runs offering freeride fun in open terrain.

Posing like a professional: photopoints on rothorn

It would be hard to imagine a more thrilling backdrop than the four-thousand-metre peaks surrounding the Matterhorn Ski Paradise. Good thing that one of the spectacular Skiline photopoints in Matterhorn ski paradise is on the summit of Rothorn. Just activate the camera with the lift ticket and strike a pose. The photo will appear seconds later on the Skiline website or Skiline App, from where you can download it free of charge.

Tip: Post the photo on Facebook or Instagram with the hashtags #matterhornparadise and #zermattcalling!

Boundless pleasure on the western face of the Matterhorn

No matter whether you’re on a ski tour or a long hike: you’re not far away from a culinary highpoint on Rothorn.

Swop your everyday shoes for hiking shoes ...

Fresh mountain air, green meadows, unbridled freedom: it’s a feeling everyone who has visited Matterhorn Paradise in summer will know. On Rothorn, you can hike to your heart’s content – and take a rest from time to time. The many mountain restaurants will take care of that.

The highest hiking trail in Europe climbs to 3415 metres between Rothorn and Oberrothorn. Your goal: a grandiose panorama of 38 four-thousand-metre peaks in three countries. The walking time on this so-called “path to freedom” is about 2.5 hours over a distance of 2.9 kilometres.
