The company
Zermatt Bergbahnen AG was formed in February 2002 through the merger of three mountain railway companies – Matterhornbahnen AG, Zermatter Rothorn-Bahn AG and Standseilbahn Zermatt-Sunnegga AG – and the contribution in kind of Gornergrat-Monte Rosa-Bahnen through the transfer of the ‘Sport Area’ facilities. In 2003, the Findeln-Sunnegga AG chairlift was incorporated into the merged company. The merger created the largest independent cable car company in Switzerland.
