Swiss Mountain Award 2023

At the forum in Davos of the Swiss cableway association “Seilbahnen Schweiz” the winner of the Swiss Mountain Award 2023 was chosen. The Zermatt Bergbahnen won the award for their generational project, the Matterhorn Alpine Crossing.

Every two years, outstanding and sustainable achievements in the Swiss cable car industry are recognized with the Swiss Mountain Award. The award ceremony takes place during the forum of Seilbahnen Schweiz. The nominated projects stand out for their positive impact on the industry, and the winner receives a prize of CHF 10,000 sponsored by SISAG. The jury comprises experts of tourism, business, cable car companies, and research.

At the beginning of the year, three projects were nominated for the Swiss Mountain Award. In addition to the Zermatt Bergbahnen with their Matterhorn Alpine Crossing project, the cableways of Hohsaas were nominated for their unmanned cableway station project, and the Stoosbahnen for their project using heating energy from the Stoosbahn to power the Stoos-Lodge.

Markus Hasler, CEO of Zermatt Bergbahnen, stated about the Matterhorn Alpine Crossing: 'In addition to the added value for our guests, this visionary cable car project also brings added value to the tourist development on both sides of the border through the establishment of cross-border partnerships. This benefits not only Zermatt and Cervinia but also the Aosta Valley, Valais region, and whole of Switzerland.’
