The start of summer at Matterhorn Paradise
Summer is arriving in Zermatt, bringing with it plenty of new developments at Matterhorn Paradise. Following extensive maintenance work, the Sunnegga-Express funicular will resume operations from 13 June. At the same time, several stations will feature new facilities, and the range of services on offer will be further enhanced.
Upgraded stations for the summer
The maintenance period has been put to good use. The Sunnegga-Rothorn valley station has been given a new exterior façade and now boasts a fresh new look. A particular highlight is the modern LED screen integrated into the facade. It provides guests with first-hand information on key cable car service data and offers live updates on cable car and piste operations. The refurbishment combines a modern look with direct benefits for our guests, making the start of the mountain experience even more comfortable. There are also new features at the Matterhorn-Express valley station. Realsport AG has installed new, grey-blue flooring. The granulate flooring, specially developed for mountain railways, is highly abrasion-resistant and ensures a uniform overall appearance. The new design combines functionality with a fresh, modern look and visibly enhances the quality of the visitor experience at the station.
In addition, the toilet facilities at Furi are being refurbished. In doing so, Zermatt Bergbahnen is also investing in infrastructure away from the cable car and station areas, further improving comfort.
News from Matterhorn Glacier Paradise
The Matterhorn Glacier Paradise summit attraction is also undergoing continuous upgrades. A new photo point has been added to the glacier palace, featuring the contours of the Matterhorn integrated into the ice wall. There is also an additional ice sculpture in the shape of marmots.
In addition, the glacier palace has been fitted with new signage, crafted in-house by the on-site metal workshop at Furi. The modern information boards guide our guests clearly and intuitively through the fascinating world inside the glacier. Guests gain fascinating insights into the connections between the ice sculptures and Valais traditions, the Alpine flora and fauna, as well as the formation, unique features and dynamics of the glacier. The combination of ice, light, sculptures and knowledge makes the tour an impressive experience and brings the Alpine glacier world to life in a special way.
Matterhorn Alpine Crossing
One of the new highlights of the Matterhorn Alpine Crossing this summer is undoubtedly the luggage transport service: twice a day, guests can check in their luggage in Zermatt or Cervinia, similar to an airline flight, allowing them to enjoy the journey in even greater comfort and relaxation.
With spectacular views, impressive highlights along the route between Switzerland and Italy, and a unique alpine experience, the Matterhorn Alpine Crossing delivers on every front.
At the same time, Cervino S.p.A. is working intensively on its major project, ‘Cervino The One’. Preparations for the first construction phase of this major project will begin this summer; it will connect the centre of Breuil-Cervinia with Testa Grigia in just over fifteen minutes. The project will utilise modern 3S cable cars from LEITNER, similar to those already in operation on the Matterhorn Glacier Ride I and II. The “Cervino The One” project is designed in two sections and features an intermediate station at Plan Maison.
