Now included: Ticket Insurance for greater peace of mind and flexibility

Anyone who lives in Zermatt knows that while our winters are often beautiful and sunny, mountain weather can be unpredictable. Storms, avalanche risks or heavy snowfall can lead to lifts and slopes being closed at short notice. To provide additional protection in such situations, Zermatt Bergbahnen is introducing a new service from the 2026/2027 winter season.

Ticket Insurance is now automatically included with all 1-day and multi-day ski passes. This applies to both Zermatt ski passes and international ski passes for Zermatt and Cervinia. Guests benefit from additional protection from their very first day of skiing, without having to take out separate insurance.

When illness, accidents or the weather disrupt your plans
If a planned day of skiing cannot go ahead due to illness or an accident, the included Ticket Insurance allows guests to claim a partial refund of their ski pass costs. Exceptional weather conditions are also covered if storms, avalanche risks or excessive snowfall make skiing impossible or unreasonable.

Specifically, during the Basic and Peak seasons, insurance coverage applies if fewer than two of the following three key mountain stations providing access to the slopes are open:

  • Trockener Steg in the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise area
  • Riffelberg in the Gornergrat area
  • Blauherd in the Rothorn area

During the Pre season, when only the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise area is open for skiing, the included Ticket Insurance applies if skiing operations in this area are completely suspended. If Matterhorn Glacier Paradise can be reached with access to the slopes or the Furggsattel chairlift is operating, there is no entitlement to a refund due to weather conditions.

The connection to Italy is also covered
Cross-border skiing is an important part of the Zermatt ski experience. That is why the connection to Breuil-Cervinia (Valtournenche) is also included in the insurance coverage.

If Breuil-Cervinia (Valtournenche) cannot be reached from Zermatt due to strong winds, avalanche risks or excessive snowfall, guests holding an international 1-day or multi-day ski pass can claim a refund from the insurance provider for the portion of their ticket covering the Italian side. The refund is calculated for each affected day and corresponds to the price difference between the international ski pass and the Zermatt ski pass.

It is important to note that partial operations announced in advance at the beginning or end of the season are not considered insured events. Scheduled operational restrictions are therefore not covered by Ticket Insurance.

An additional service for our guests
By including Ticket Insurance, Zermatt Bergbahnen has enhanced its ski passes with a service that offers greater peace of mind in unpredictable situations. While we cannot control the weather in the mountains, we can help ensure that our guests are better protected when exceptional circumstances arise.

For guests looking for additional protection
Guests who wish to extend their insurance coverage can still purchase optional supplementary insurance for 1-day and multi-day ski passes. This provides additional benefits in the event of an accident, as well as third-party liability insurance for the slopes in the Breuil-Cervinia (Valtournenche) ski area.

Two different supplementary insurance options also remain available for seasonal and annual passes.
